In masstone all of these very dark shaded colours merely appear to be black but when they are tinted with titanium at two different tint depths and shown side by side it is much easier for artists to form an idea of whether they would be useful on their palette or not. The same four colours reduced with medium which emphasises the translucency of the colours.
