Color Comparisons

Comparing Cadmium Reds with Organic Reds

Shown first as masstone with two tints mixed with White. The colours are Pyrrole Red, which has an almost blueish undertone, Cadmium Red Light which has a warm undertone and Napthol Red Light which looks similar to Cadmium Red Light but tints in a slightly blueish direction as more White is added. Next is Cadmium Red Medium followed by Napthol Crimson which looks similar in masstone and mid tint but is cleaner and bluer looking in a pale tint.

When we look at the glazes of these colours the top colour Pyrrole Red is a very middle red, whereas Cadmium Red Light shown next is decidedly warm and is really too opaque to use in glazing. The next colour is Napthol Red Light which has a warm undertone and lastly Napthol Crimson which has a cool undertone. Cadmium Red Medium is so opaque that it is not shown in this glazing format.
